Armstrong Class

Welcome to Armstrong Class!  We are the Year 2, 3 and 4 pupils and our teacher is Miss Taylor.  We are lucky to have our fantastic teaching assistant Mrs Davis working with us throughout the week too!

We are a fearless class of children who love taking on a challenge to get the best out of our learning!

Summer Term 2021

This term our topic is 'Invaders and Settlers'.

Our Literacy texts will focus heavily on our topic and we will firstly be reading 'Arthur and the Golden Rope'. We will be learning all about the Vikings in our history and literacy lessons. Our first book is written by Joe Todd Stanton and we will be introduced to our first Norse myth. We will journey to the land of the Vikings, a place filled with magical objects, powerful gods and mythical beasts to be conquered! After studying the text, we will write a fact file on Norse gods and monsters and use descriptive language to create a character description.

Our second text is Viking Voyagers by Jack Tite. This non-fiction book helps us to learn all about the history of the Vikings. We will develop our knowledge of the Viking’s home life, travel overseas and the end of their era. This text will help us to write a variety on non-fiction pieces.
During our discovery of the Vikings, we will also design and build our own Viking longships in our DT lessons.

In Maths, we will learn about shape and measure. The children will build their mathematical vocabulary to be able to describe the properties of shapes accurately. In our measurement unit, the children will learn how to convert, add and subtract measurements.

During our RE lessons, the children will extend their knowledge of Christianity and we will discover what kind of world Jesus wanted.

Our Science topic this term is Sound. We will discover what sounds we hear around our school and understand how they are made. As a final project, we will create our own musical instrument to explore the links between our instrument’s materials and the pitch.

In RSHE, our topic this half term is Relationships. As a class, we will discuss how important it is to have a strong and stable relationships with our friends and family. We will talk about the best ways we can resolve conflict and ways we can show appreciation.

Please come dressed in your PE kits on Tuesdays and Thursdays and ensure outdoor learning clothes are in school all week please. Children need a water bottle in school every day.

Children need to bring book bags on Fridays so that we can change reading books and send home additional learning resources.
